i have worked with pimsleur for a few years now. the customer service is always great and the coaching is easy to grasp. the basic principles are easy to implement in your own. i recently ordered the pimsleur italian level i and level ii books. i would like to point out that the pimsleur books are well prepared. we’ve talked about the basic verbs, adverbs, prepositions, etc. but the words are extremely ordered. also, there are very clear steps to go through to learn each one of the verbs! for instance, after choosing the verb to “guagliano” (the verb “guagliano”) and practicing saying the verb and then you practice using it for a while and then you practice the ending. (the ending) however, what i think is the most important aspect is that in each chapter, there are different examples of how to say it in different situations. so not only do you have practice and learn the verb but you learn how to use it in various scenarios which makes it easier to remember it. also, there are many dictionaries included in the pimsleur books. so, in the simplest words, pimsleur books give you tools to help you remember the knowledge gained with practice and learning.
great & thorough review nathan! the app is all the best and i like their interactive dialogues and having the audio of the teacher for each lesson, very helpful. the pimsleur method works well in teaching methodology and has served me well. after doing their levels 1-3 very quickly ( due to my lack of time ) and finding that the material is good in quality, the pimsleur italian level 4.5 was a little hard going because of a few of their vocabulary lists like the list of cultures and places ( my mother tongue is thai ) and words were quite difficult to remember at times, and keeping in mind the fact that we were learning the language ” from scratch “, the book just wasn’t presenting the words in the same way or in the order of difficulty as i would be used to. (which is a flaw in my opinion )even though the wordings seemed correct at times( the ordering is not the same ) to me( always referring to the top of the page and finishing it off with the last word, and of course the matching of numbers and letters with the words-but hey, it’s 4.5. my all time favourite book of their)overall, the book is good but it could have been improved on or is fine as it is.
