Empire at War 2 takes inspiration from all the great Star Wars games out there (X-Wing, Galactic Battlegrounds, Star Conflict and Star Wars Empire at War), especially focusing on single-player, but also adding new and improved features that will satisfy all fans of the game. Originally intended to be released in 2009, but indefinitely postponed due to the birth of Lucasarts’s daughter, the sequel to Empire at War puts you in control of either the Empire or Rebel Alliance. Empire at War 3 takes the multi-player space/starfarers game and improves upon it throughout. An improved death system, new maps, updated tactics, new engines, new ships, new weapons, a new control scheme, and a new campaign mode add their unique flavour to this game!
A while back, I was looking at a website that had been sold on the Shareware Library. It wasn’t a game you’d find in a regular retail store. It was a game for downloading and installing on a DOS machine. The game was Star Wars Empire at War, and the download was a 98MB Zip file.
If you’ve never heard of Star Wars Empire at War, or you’ve only heard the name when you accidentally clicked on a link to a download site or a porn site, you need to get out more. It’s a space/starfarers RTS. It’s pretty good. A lot of the other elements in this list are direct descendants of this game.
