The feature set of Lightroom is now virtually identical to that of Photoshop; features tacked on to “Photoshop” are not different from those to other, existing Photoshop programs, on the opposite size end of the price spectrum.
I am sure that Lightroom with its 3D animators, PixelTool (Levels, Curves, Channels), and Adjustment Brush probably cost more than the standalone Photoshop CS6, so much so that I wouldn’t have to pay that amount each month. If I understand Adobe’s request to remove the need for their subscription, that’s fine. I just wouldn’t be able to buy a copy of Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 5 or Photoshop CS6 for my Mac with absolutely no plan to ever use once until I need it again. The cost for that could be prohibitive. Imagine if I bought a brand new Mac with absolutely no OS to run on it and then had to pay the ridiculous amount of money to have some OS on there at all! These “Photoshop” programs are now pretty much like a very expensive network share on your hard drive! I understand why they feel that way, but it reduces their appeal, and in a subscription-based environment, it is wildly unsustainable.
