      Gastrointestinal parasitosis in a rural community of Northwest Ethiopia.
      A cross-sectional survey of gastrointestinal parasitosis in a rural community in Ethiopia was conducted from March to June 2006. Formalin-ether and Kato-Katz thick smear methods were employed for the detection of parasites. A total of 1001 subjects were included in the study. Overall prevalence of gastrointestinal parasites was 77.7% with prevalence of 50.2%, 9.2% and 27.5% of which were due to protozoan, helminth and bacterial parasites, respectively. Trichuris trichiura (15.6%), Entamoeba histolytica (5.9%) and Giardia intestinalis (5.5%) were the most common parasites. In addition, T. trichiura was most common among children aged between 11 and 15 years (P 0.05). Prevalence of intestinal parasites was high in this rural community. Moreover, T. trichiura was the most prevalent parasitic infection. Health education needs to be emphasized on intestinal parasitic infections in rural communities in Ethiopia. to identify virulence-associated antigens from *N. gonorrhoeae*. In this study, we have used the predictive software developed by Raghava et al. to identify putative virulence antigens from *N. gonorrhoeae* and found 29 putative potential antigens. These putative antigens fall into different functional classes and include outer membrane proteins, adhesins, MtrD family, lipoproteins, porins, periplasmic membrane proteins, phospholipases, diacylglycerol kinases, cytoplasmic proteins etc. and are distributed into different islands as shown in [Fig. 1](#f1-bmj-44-4-1181){ref-type=”fig”}. This antigens may not be involved in the steps of infection, however, the vaccine designed using these antigens will be of great benefit for the control of gonorrhea.
