The Souls of
the Martyrs is a first person sc-fi horror adventure set in an
alternate present-time future in which the Vatican has instituted a
system of human-bonus trials called the Carceri throughout North
America and Europe. If caught by the Vatican, one’s fate is largely
determined by the circumstances and nature of one’s life and
previous actions. The player assumes the role of an adventurer, a
faceless, nameless man charged with finding and saving their
fellow-sufferer, the Church’s most holy saint, Sanctorum XIV,
resting in the basement of a secret laboratory hidden deep below the
Vatican’s New York City headquarters.
Depending on how the player acts throughout their adventure, they may be charged with either crimes against the church, such as
murder, or crimes against humanity, such as child abuse and
rampant sexual perversion.
If the player manages to locate and save the saint, they
may be deemed a hero, but if not, they will fall prey to one of the
Vatican’s secret tribunals, where their only chance is a sacred
miracle performed upon their body, called the Schisma, which might
result in their escape from the Carceri and their possible
salvation. If, however, the player’s vile crimes are deemed beyond
salvation, they are incarcerated in one of the Carceri until death,
where their eternal fate is determined by the choice of the
Vatican’s special executioners; the Sancti Mortis or the Saints of
Death.
The player also has the ability to disobey their Church and
choose to work with their fellow sufferers, free them from their
slavery, and take them into their home.
What’s New:
I’m really excited about what I’ve done with this title. I’ve
spent the last year or so making changes to the core gameplay,
adding many of my favorite new features I’ve only seen in indie
hype-games, like a Chapter Select screen and the ability to save
off-line. This update is primarily done for the PC, with some
minor changes for the iPad. I had the foresight to port over the
working of my old game to the current Unity 4.2 version, so that I
could quickly switch the engine as I did for other titles on both

In one of the photographs, Mr. Trump is standing next to Mrs. Kim while they make a point, smiling and holding hands. Mr. Trump is leaning in, pointing at something on the floor.
But it was Mr. Trump’s decision to brag during a joint news conference that he and the North Korean leader “fell in love” that has caught the attention of Democratic leaders and pundits, many of whom point to the president’s comments as the start of a dangerous global “love fest”.
Some have gone so far as to question the leader-to-leader interactions, suggesting that the two leaders could be duped into a bad deal.
“The fact that such deals are being contemplated with North Korea is troubling on a number of levels,” said a statement from Republican House leaders, including Speaker Paul Ryan. “These talks are disturbing in that they would have the president and Kim Jong-un meeting as ‘equal partners’ while the North Korean regime continues to perpetuate the oppression of its people and human rights abuses.”

Originally an installation for Valentines Day, HES is a “cyberpunk-in-space adventure”. It hits PS4 and Windows PC on February 14 (23:59 GMT), £9.99 on PS4 and I guess Windows or $9.99 on Steam or directly from Pixelberry.

Watch the videogame journalist play a protracted space shooting match to our 25-minute recommendation, in which he’s disappointed to find it requires the HTC Vive to work really well. The HTC Vive on it’s own, is a really interesting tech for giving you a sense of presence in a 3D virtual world, not just the sense of presence, in a well designed world that feels believable, but with some flickers of fear as we get into games where guns are fired at us. Hopefully, HES is the definitive example of that idea.
The controls do take a bit of getting used to. You’re basically in a cockpit, with an affable protagonist and a support staff of AI who give you nice alerts and warnings with appropriate panache to help you survive the “Extinction Event”.
We’ve got some nice ideas of how we’d like to see HES become even better – but it is still really excellent and an example of why the updates to the platform should move fast and look strong, even if it feels weird that it’s Skyrim for Windows and PS4 at the same time.
HES is out February 14. Go down to the shops for a limited time and pick it up.
