about the national book awards
every year, the national book foundation recognizes the finest books of the year with the national book awards, which are the most prestigious prizes in american letters. honoring books that have inspired readers, the national book awards recognize authors of distinguished literary achievement and are considered among the most prestigious awards in the world. the awards are presented during the national book festival each fall.
this years national book festival will be held september 17-26, 2015 and feature an expanded slate of programs and activities to celebrate american books and the power of reading. highlights of the 2015 festival include the following:
- a new livestreamed concert from artist kristin chenoweth. the guild theater stage will be filled with actors, authors and storytellers to perform a variety of songs, including the new song, america can write. the performance is free to festival attendees, but seating is limited. to reserve your ticket, visit bookfestival.org/programs/tickets.
- the national book festival student awards ceremony, presented by st. martin’s press. the youth awards will honor a select group of high school students who are making waves with their creativity in the book arts, literature and innovation. the seniors awards will recognize teens who have demonstrated extraordinary skill and talent for their work in books.
- live-streamed author talks and interviews with festival-selected authors, including mary karr, ann patchett, elin hilderbrand, dara horn, wanda coleman and more.
- book and author autographing sessions, where festival-selected authors sign books and share stories with audiences.
- hear from festival-selected authors, including nora roberts, scott stirling, tom franklin, pia guerra, anne ursu, peter abrahams and more.
- museum tours and demonstrations on storytelling, design and more.
- a new interactive element, “bookmarks,” a traveling exhibit of original artwork, based on the festival theme of “open a book, open the world.”
- an expanded set of programming and activities to make the festival more accessible to families and younger readers. in addition to the old favorites, interactive workshops and family-friendly programming will be offered.
