Comparing Photoshop and GIMP
While Photoshop is the most widely used raster editing program, many users may still prefer to use GIMP, which was created by the same company and has some similar features.
If you’re wondering which is the better program, GIMP and Photoshop are actually very similar, and it may come down to which one you are more comfortable with. GIMP supports layers just like Photoshop, and both programs offer powerful features for altering pictures. GIMP is free, while Photoshop is not.
My biggest complaint with GIMP is that it has a bad user interface. The interface is not intuitive and not as easy to use as Photoshop’s, so I suggest you use Photoshop for the majority of your editing.

Need help to repair your images? No problume. Open your images in Photoshop then click the Magic Eraser Brush tool on the tools palette and add opacity to the background. This will reveal any blemishes so you can remove them easily.
– modify color balance: in order to make an image appear more colorful you need to boost the red, green and blue channels.

– apply frames: add a border or frame to an image and then crop it in order to leave the part you want on the screen.
– merge two images: combine two images into one by duplicating the background layer and stacking the two images one on top of the other.
– cut off the top or bottom part of a photo: hide the border from the image while retaining the transparency of the background.
– prepare your photos for printing: you can print them in various formats.
– create greeting cards: choose your favorite fonts and create a greeting.
– add a matte painting: add a coating of matte paint to make the effect more realistic.
– make it look vintage: select the color saturation and lightness of the image and modify it to look more like it was taken 40 years ago.
– get creative: you can add effects to make your photos more interesting such as burning, desaturation, contrast, vignette, blur, emboss, grain, grayscale etc.

Does prophylactic thyroidectomy affect outcome in patients undergoing thyroidectomy for benign disease? A prospective study of patients with benign goitre.
This study investigated the influence of primary thyroidectomy on the outcome of prophylactic thyroidectomy in patients presenting with benign goitre. During a four-year period, from 1996 to 1999, 45 patients (Group A) underwent primary thyroidectomy for benign goitre. Of them, 24 had secondary prophylactic thyroidectomy (Group B) following thyroidectomy for benign goitre (Groups A+B). The main indication for secondary thyroidectomy was recurrent goitre (n = 11; 45.8%). All patients were interviewed by a questionnaire and underwent a physical examination and imaging study, including ultrasound and computed tomography. The mean follow-up period was 19.1 months. Six patients were lost to follow up and another two refused the follow-up. The remaining 37 patients were then subjected to a neck exploration. The mean time interval between the initial thyroidectomy and secondary thyroidectomy was 3.4 +/- 1.3 years (range 1-8 years). All patients were analysed for evidence of recurrent thyroid disease. Primary prophylactic thyroidectomy was performed in 37 patients (Group C). The pre-operative total thyroidectomy (TT) group (n = 15) underwent a total thyroidectomy and a central dissection of the neck lymph nodes. Subtotal thyroidectomy was performed in 22 patients. Group D (n = 45) represented the overall cohort of benign thyroid disease. The mean age at the initial thyroidectomy was 31.2 +/- 10.9 years (Group A), 30.7 +/- 9.8 years (Group B) and 32.6 +/- 9.8 years (Group C) respectively. There were 15 men (54.5%) and 12 women (45.5%) in Groups A and B, but none in Group C. The mean length of follow-up was 30.7 months (Group A), 22.1 months (Group B) and 31.3 months (Group C). Twelve (46.2%) patients in Group B and four (57.1%) in Group C remained recurrence-free (P > 0.05). This paper reports results of a survey to examine attitudes of health care workers towards their work and home caring. The survey was undertaken at a tertiary teaching hospital in a Mid-Western State. Of the 50 respondents, most (nearly 80%) stated that nursing was the most fulfilling career. Home care was perceived as most satisfying because of a combination of ‘vigor’ and ‘peacefulness’, whereas hospital work was most difficult because of the intensity of the environment and adverse working conditions. Some respondents admitted to being responsible for deaths and some experienced an inability to cope.
