Adobe’s recent price increase has meant that, as of a few months ago, the full version of Photoshop was no longer free. At least Adobe’s annual subscription rates—some $12 a month or $144 annually—is affordable, and clearly their pricing has a lot to do with the advertising revenue and the real-time resizes of images they need to offer. Troy from Remmina reported that they were able to get the same Photoshop license for free on Mac OS by running their own software, albeit one isn’t nearly as polished or robust as Photoshop. MacRumors reported that the GIMP, the free open-source Photoshop alternative, now ships with three new features. The GIMP One Button Retouching is a new layer tool that lets you apply a predefined set of edits to multiple, consecutive photos in a single operation. It’s useful for going through a set of your images and fixing specific flaws, like a crooked finger, or softening the face of a baby doll.

You can easily edit, distribute and store high dynamic range images. You can also create and store standard dynamic range images, or even lossless low dynamic range images. When you want to share your images today, you don’t need to be well-versed in the technical aspects of HDR.
It’s no secret that I’ve always been a fan of Photoshop. I think it’s widely regarded as the industry standard but comparing Lightroom and Photoshop to each other is sort of like comparing apples and oranges. You are going to get vastly different results from the two tools and it’s not something I could ever justify emulating in a comparison of the two.

A completely new concept for collaboration is Share for Review which allows users to work on a shared work file in Photoshop and continue working alongside colleagues and clients in their browser.
